The Configuration Management taxonomy has been designed to provide a hierarchical connection between requirements and individual structures, systems, and components. To do so, it was necessary to make significant changes to the existing taxonomy previously laid out in NEI 97-04 [1]. The taxonomy remains consistent with the Configuration Management Equilibrium model described in INPO AP-929 [2], shown here. The relationship between the terminology in AP-929, and the new Configuration Management taxonomy is summarized in the following table:
